A Different Kind of Practice

Jojoë Atelier is a small, independent garden design and construction practice, built around a simple belief that good design and good craftsmanship belong together.

I work across both disciplines, from the first sketches and considered details to the practical business of making things. Sometimes that means creating an entire garden; sometimes it's a single element that deserves a little more thought and care.

I prefer a personal approach, taking on a considered number of projects and giving each the attention it deserves. There are no grand ambitions to be the biggest, just a genuine enjoyment of the work, the materials and the satisfaction of making something well.

My background combines formal horticultural training with years of practical experience in garden design and construction. RHS qualified, with a Diploma in Garden Design, I've developed an understanding of plants, materials and the relationship between a garden's design and the way it is built. It's this combination of knowledge and hands-on experience that shapes my approach to every project.

My love of gardens began long before I knew what garden design was. I remember my Grampie letting me into his greenhouse, the unmistakable smell of compost, the warmth, the plants growing in their pots, and showing me how to plant my very first tree. I didn't know it then, but something about that experience stayed with me.

That early fascination grew into a lifelong love of nature, of understanding how things grow, how landscapes change and how the smallest details can make a place feel special. Alongside it came a love of making things, of working with my hands, understanding materials and finding satisfaction in creating something from an idea.

Designing and building gardens brings those interests together. It's a wonderful combination of imagination and practicality, of working with nature while making something useful, lasting and beautiful.

Alongside my creative and practical experience, I bring an extensive background in project management. Planning, organisation and bringing the right people together are as much a part of my approach as the design itself. Where a project calls for additional expertise, I draw upon a carefully selected network of skilled craftspeople, each a specialist in their own trade. It's a collaborative way of working, bringing together individual skills with a shared appreciation for quality, detail and craftsmanship.

And even now, after all these years, there's still something rather lovely about standing back, looking at something I've made and remembering where it all began.
